I love this, yeah, the fact that I no loger want to GM D&D only affects my players, and they are happy with all the new games we discovered.
I'm also testing game system with solo play, because I love to find out what makes them tick. And I found out the easier games to solo play are those that don't have GM defined targets for dice rolls. And there are a lot of games like that out there.
I also don’t know why many people who play other Fantasy RPGs are so set on proving they are better than ANY version of D&D. Or why people who play 3rd Edition or 5th Edition are set on bad mouthing 4th Edition or whatever. I have mentioned various problems with AD&D (the game I lived growing up) but if people want to stick with that I’m all for it and not trying to get them to play something else. For me 4th Edition does everything I want it to do as far as role playing & combat so it’s my version of choice for D&D but I’m not telling people they need to switch to it or they are doing something wrong or not having as much fun as they could with MY version of the game…

Great post. Thank you.
100 percent agree with you Greybeard!
Go around the table. Ask, "Are you having fun? Are you challenged? Are you happy with the game?"
If the answers are 'yes,' UR DOON IT RITE.
Play the game you enjoy, dump the stuff that gets in your way preventing you having fun. Steal, use, invent what you want for your game.
That's the beauty of RPGs; there's no one way of getting it right.
