Despite the holiday in the US, there was a ton of content last week—and I hope to continue that pace through the end of the year at least. Here is a recap of everything that happened along with some bonus content.
New Videos
While there was no live stream last week, I did drop 2 new videos. In the first, I walked through the D&D 4e Monster Manual and offered my thoughts.
I got a few responses indicating that some did not like the long gaps between commentary where I just paged through the book. I will admit this is something that I wrestled with. If I were to talk about every monster, the video might have been hours long, but I did want to present all the pages. If you have ideas about how I might have covered this book better, please leave a comment.
The other video talked about whether the rules in D&D even matter.
The bottom line is that, since the first D&D book was published, the rules themselves have encouraged creativity and flexibility. It is no secret that nearly every table has homebrew rules that make their version of the game unique. And that is perfectly fine.
Monster Monday
This week’s featured monster are oozes. These are interesting in that they can be deadly, but have no ill intent beyond survival. They do not hunt you down or strategize. But they can be gobs of fun for the party.
Ooze encounter ideas (1d8)…
🗡️ The party enters an abandoned armory filled with rusting weapons and armor. Unbeknownst to them, an Ochre Jelly has made its home here, camouflaging itself amidst the corroded equipment
🗡️ Heavy rain has flooded a subterranean cavern, creating a network of streams and pools that are infested with gelatinous cubes
🗡️ The party is asked to deal with an infestation of ochre jellies that are contaminating the village’s water supply
🗡️ An evil wizard outside of town has created a dozen exotic oozes, but they have all escaped
🗡️ A wealthy visitor to town hires the party to explore the crystal caverns and retrieve the gems that are buried within. She fails to mention the gelatinous cubes hidden throughout
🗡️ A criminal escapes from the town jail and the party is conscripted to find them. The last place they were saw was heading into the town sewer system
🗡️ The party is captured and placed in a chamber with three ochre jellies and no exits
🗡️ A heavy rain floods the party’s camp and washes several oozes into their tents
